Women's and Gender Studies and Information Science Graduate Student Gabriela Redwine
Mentoring Michelle has been a fantastic experience because of her
passion and enthusiasm for intellectual work. This semester she presented
at two conferences, attended some of my graduate Women's Studies
classes,
applied and got accepted to the summer program at Yale, and met regularly
with me and our faculty supervisor (Sue Heinzelman), among other
things.
Her professionalism and intellectual engagement have inspired me
to raise
my own game. I see this reciprocity--mentor and mentee challenging
each
other--as the essence of the mentorship experience. I've been fortunate
to have good mentors in my life who continue to guide and support
me as I
wander along. I take very seriously my responsibility to offer similar
support to other people, regardless of age, and it is a privilege
to be a
part of a program that facilitates this type of personal and intellectual
legacy.
